“Onwards and upwards lads”, “Strong start”: Some Liverpool fans react to 4-1 win vs Norwich + Match Report

Liverpool v Norwich City Report: Liverpool Match Report

Liverpool began their Premier League campaign with a comprehensive 4-1 victory over newly-promoted Norwich City at a raucous Anfield.

Canaries defender Grant Hanley scored an own goal to kick things off in terms of scoring for the home side. Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Divock Origi scored to make it business as usual for the Reds.

Teemu Pukki did pull one back in a spirited second half showing by the away side but it wasn’t enough to ruffle any feathers of the opposition.

Coming back to the start of the game, Liverpool were off the blocks quickly and got the lead in the seventh minute. A dangerous-looking Origi cross was put into his own net by Hanley.

The lead was doubled in the 19th minute, when a ricochet ball fell into the path of Roberto Firmino, who just nodded it towards Salah to score.

It was 3-0 in the 28th minute when van Dijk didn’t really have to jump from a Salah corner to head the ball into the back of the net. Norwich were seriously guilty of leaving the big man alone in their box.

Jurgen Klopp’s men made it 4-0 just before half-time, when Trent Alexander-Arnold whipped in a beauty of a cross for Origi to time his run at the far post and head the ball home.

The second half wasn’t that straightforward for Liverpool, as Norwich stepped their game up and gave more of a challenge to the European champions.

In the 64th minute, Teemu Pukki made a good run through the Reds’ defence to be found by Emiliano Buendia. The former squeezed his effort past Adrian for the consolation goal.

Other than the goals scored, it was an entertaining game to watch. Both teams hit the post, while Norwich keeper Tim Krul was in action on regular occasions to keep the score down.

On the other hand, Liverpool lost their number one Alisson through a suspected calf injury just after half an hour into the game.

They’d be concerned by that but, apart from few glitch moments at the back, Klopp would be happy with the game his team played.

Here’s how their fans reacted after this opening night victory:
