Arsenal’s Wojciech Szczesny and Tottenham’s Hugo Lloris have often been let down by their defence’s ineptitude. Petr Cech has been in terrific form in the Chelsea goal and rightfully earns his spot in our ‘London Dream XI’ for the 2013-14 season.

Defence

LB – Cesar Azpilicueta

Branislav Ivanovic has been the epitome of consistency at right back for Chelsea. It is Ivanovic’s consistency coupled with his versatility that makes him such a vital cog in Jose Mourinho’s system. From a defensive standpoint, the Serbian’s physicality and ability in the air makes him a force to reckon with, while he has given Chelsea a different dimension going forward with his smartly timed runs.

Laurent Koscielny was an error waiting to happen in his first season at Arsenal, but the Frenchman has produced consistent displays in the last three seasons, and is widely recognised as one of the top central defenders in the world at the moment.

John Terry has been enjoying his best season in a Chelsea shirt for a few years under the management of Jose Mourinho. Chelsea have the tightest defence in the league this season and Terry has been ever present at the back.

Cesar Azpilicueta was asked to switch to left back from his favoured right back position, and the Spanish international has been in supreme form this season and has sealed his spot in the Chelsea lineup.
