One Of The reasons I Joined Manchester United – Robin Van Persie Talks About Rooney

published :

Robin Van Persie has extended the olive branch towards Wayne Rooney inspite of the England international’s indifferent attitude towards Van Persie. Robin Van Perise has stated that deep down Rooney wants to stay with the club and that Rooney was one of the primary reasons for the Dutch to join United.

“Everyone wants Wayne to stay and deep down I think he feels the same. One of the reasons I joined Manchester United was to play with Wayne.  I hope he stays. Not only is he a great goalscorer, he does so much work across the pitch. He hates to lose – that’s why you see him one minute pressing for goal, the next minute defending ferociously.” Van Persie stated.

The main reason for Rooney’s departure can be deemed as because of Van Persie’s meteoric rise in the team and his subsequent fall. Recently manager David Moyes has mentioned that Van Persie is the number one striker of the club which has left Rooney “angry and confused”. But Van Persie has insisted that Rooney is a vital member of the squad and he will definitely make a comeback. “He is an asset to any team. He will come good again. He is a strong lad.”, he added.

Moyes, on the other hand has indicated that the situation with Rooney is still under control.

“I had a long conversation with Roy about it last week. Wayne has had a shoulder injury. He has been sore with it, which has meant he has not been able to have any contact, so he hasn’t trained with us [the first team].” Moyes mentioned to MUTV.

While Rooney was sidelined from the game due to a shoulder injury, Robin Van Persie stole the show last night as he scored two goals to help United to lift the Community Shield and subsequently land their first trophy under new manger David Moyes. Quoted by United’s official website, RVP told:

“It’s been a very good day. It’s the first of five [trophies available this season] and we knew we could win one after just one game today and we did that,” he told MUTV.

“Everyone wanted to win for the manager and the new staff and, of course, for the players as well because it’s always nice to win a trophy. It’s important for the manager and the staff to win trophies and to get the first one in only after a month or so is great.”

In other news, Manchester United are keen to sign Dutch youngster Jeroen Lumu who now plays for Willem II, as reported by the Sunday People.

He can be deployed both in the wings and in the forward and has already scored two league goals for his side in the Eredivisie. Last January both Fulham and Aston Villa were linked to the player but the deal did not go through.
