Juventus boss Maurizio Sarri heaped the praise on star forward Cristiano Ronaldo while speaking to Raisport after his side’s victory over Roma in Coppa Italia.
Despite Roma starting the match on a high note, they fell behind in the 26th minute when Gonzalo Higuain picked out Ronaldo on his left. The former Real Madrid man placed and angled the shot into the far bottom corner, making it 13 goals in his last 10 games.
Rodrigo Bentancur doubled Juve’s lead in the 38th minute after collecting the ball from Douglas Costa.
The Old Lady were in full control and scored the third goal in the first-half stoppage time as Leonardo Bonnuci headed in a corner. Paulo Fonseca’s side pulled one back five minutes after the break and made an effort. But Sarri’s men held their nerve and qualified for the semi-finals.
While the Italian tactician was pleased with the team’s effort, he was once again heard praising Ronaldo, who has time and again put in a huge performance for Juventus. Sarri said:
“On an individual level it is difficult to improve, he is extraordinary, one of the best players ever. It would be important for us to help him win the sixth Golden Ball. It can be improved on a defensive and offensive level, but at the department level. If it could be improved, it would be a huge fortune”.
The Portugal international has made a tremendous comeback after a dull start to the season and has scored 19 goals this season across all competitions.
Meanwhile, Sarri also gave credits to the 34-year-old’s mother saying: “Congratulations to Ronaldo’s mother”.
Juventus were knocked out from the competition at the same stage last season after Lazio beat them and if Ronaldo continues to perform, they would have the chance to get till the end.
The Turin-based club next face Napoli, Sarri’s former club, on Sunday at the San Paolo Stadium.
