Predicted Wolves Lineup To Face Preston North End In EFL Championship
The revolution continued at Wolves this weekend as they defeated QPR 2-1 in what became a surprisingly tight game. In the first half, Wolves showed the dominance that had got them to the top of the league but in the second half, the West London side came right back into it and in some ways, Wolves were lucky to come away with all three points.
The competition for places in the Wolves side has improved with the arrival of Benik Afobe and the forward players responded in this game with a display full of attacking talent. This weekend, Wolves travel to Preston, who will be eager to show the top of the table side what they are made of. But they will be up against it because they are playing a side that has lost 1 game in the league since 28th October. Nuno Espirito Santo continues to have no new injury news and will be eager to do everything he can to keep his team’s momentum.
Probable Wolves XI
Formation: 3-4-3
GK – John Ruddy
Ruddy had a few saves to make in the last few minutes against QPR and he stood up to the challenge. With Karl Ikeme still injured, he is their only experienced keeper.
CB – Willy Boly
Man of the match the last time out, Willy Boly showed what a wonderful player he can be, against Ian Holloway’s side. He is a calm influence and is a good passer of the ball.
CB – Conor Coady
It is strange to think that he was a midfielder before Nuno arrived. Such is the success of his transformation into a strong central defender. He will be looking to keep the bustling Preston attack quiet.
CB – Ryan Bennett
Part of a back three that picks itself, Bennett will be looking to keep his personally impressive form going. He is a big part of the reason that this defence rarely concedes.
LWB – Barry Douglas
Barry Douglas will have his usual brief to get forward and support the attacks as much as possible. He will not want to provide as much defensive cover as he had to do last weekend.
CM – Ruben Neves
The player who sets the tempo for Wolves. He is the start of every move and is deadly when playing on the half turn. If Preston give him an inch in this game he will take a mile.
CM – Alfred N’Diaye
N’Diaye got only his second goal of the season last weekend with a beautiful run from midfield. The former Hull and Sunderland player will have to perform his usual duties to the highest standards before adding to that tally this weekend.
RWB – Matt Doherty
The Irishman has been with Wolves since 2010 and will be enjoying the Nuno revolution as much as anyone, as he has seen the club at its lowest ebb.
LW – Ivan Cavaleiro
Probably the best player that has ever played in the Championship. Two assists last week and he will be looking for more again this week. There is nothing that this player cannot do.
ST – Diogo Jota
With 13 goals this season, Jota has proved to be an excellent signing for the West Midlands club. He should lead the line but expect him to pop up in several different positions as the attackers interchange.
RW – Helder Costa
Almost the forgotten man at Wolverhampton, Costa recovered from his injury troubles to bag a goal against QPR. If he retains his place, he can do a lot of damage to the Preston defence.
