First Edinson Cavani, then Salvatore Aronica(both last year), more recently Valon Behrami and now Marek Hamsik. Sadly, the common thing between these players is not some record they hold for Napoli or in the world of football. All these players have been robbed in less than an year in the Italian city Naples.
Hamsik was held up at gunpoint as he left the Stadio San Paolo following the Serie A club’s goalless draw against Sampdoria. According to the report, Hamsik was on his way to the city’s Capodichino airport when the incident happened. Two individuals were reported to have stopped his car, smashed one of the windows and, after waving a gun in the 25-year-old’s face, made off with his watch and other valuables, before police arrived on the scene.
Since this is not the first of its kind with international footballers in the city of Naples, it could be a strong reason for the players to leave the club and city for good.
Ex teammate Esquiel Lavezzi’s wife was also robbed in the past and many unofficial reports suggest that she was so terrified after that incident that she played a major role in Lavezzi joining PSG.
