Nottingham Forest signing this veteran 31-year-old star would make them rock solid at the back – agreed?

Nottingham Forest opinion: Forest should make a for Asmir Begovic

Nottingham Forest have had a decent season. They finished in ninth place with 66 points to their name but it was 8 points off the final playoff spot.

The final place was Derby County’s, with the Rams confirming their place in the playoff on the final day of the regular season. Things need to change for Forest and they have a team capable of finishing amongst the top-six sides, but one thing has to change. They need to stop conceding so many goals.

Nottingham Forest managed to net 62 goals over the course of the season and is still amongst the Championship’s top sides. However, in comparison, they managed to concede 54 goals, which effectively made everything they scored worth close to nothing.

It meant that they finished with a goal difference of 7, the third lowest amongst the top-ten sides in the second-tier. That has to change, especially if Forest have any hopes of making it back into the Premier League.

Step one to doing that is changing their goalkeeper. At the moment, manager Martin O’Neill has Costel Pantilimon, Stephen Henderson and Luke Steele at his disposal.

Henderson has already confirmed that he will be leaving at the end of the season. At the same time, the remaining two have failed to impress enough. Neither Pantilimon or Steele have done enough to earn a first-team spot and the fact that Steele is 34, means that the club needs a replacement.

That being said, one player who would fit that role just happens to be Asmir Begovic. The Nottingham Post has reported that Forest have been linked with a move for the Bournemouth goalkeeper.

The 31-year-old is looking for a way out and has already seen Olympiacos interested in a move the report further adds. However, given their issues in said position, it seems that the Reds have to be first to his signature if they want a chance of surviving and maybe thriving in the Championship next season.

That’s something that the 31-year-old former Chelsea man can add to the squad and his immense Premier League experience will come in handy in the near future.

Conclusion

Asmir Begovic is a reliable shot-stopper and more importantly for Nottingham Forest he can be just the man to lead them back into the Premier League. The Reds have a great history and that alone means that they need to find their way back into the top-tier.
