Norwich’s promotion push would gain a lot of strength if they sign this promising Ligue 1 sensation soon

Why Norwich City should make a January swoop for Lebo Mothiba

Norwich City are looking like they are set for a return to the Premier League after an excellent start to the 2018/19 campaign under Daniel Farke.

Daniel Farke has managed to get the best out of players, many of whom were underperforming until the last campaign. The German tactician has established a sense of unity among the players, has made the team play an eye-catching brand of football by promoting youth.

However, Norwich City must take nothing for granted at this stage even though they sit at third place in the Championship just four points off league leaders Leeds United. Farke needs to continue churning out results but take one game at a time.

For the second half of the season, the Canaries need to take a dip in the transfer market and get in reinforcements as quickly as possible. The transfer dealings need to happen quickly as new players often take time to settle and cope with the speed and intensity of Championship football.

Farke doesn’t need to bring in a lot of players in the January transfer window. He needs to address a couple of areas but his next signing has to be a forward, who can add competition for Teemu Pukki and increase the depth in the squad.

Jordan Rhodes, on loan from Sheffield Wednesday, has done well so far but his fitness remains a concern. Hence, an extra body up front would be welcome at Carrow Road and Farke must target Strasbourg forward Lebo Mothiba.

Lebo Mothiba, 22, has been making waves in France with his displays in Strasbourg colours this season. He has netted 7 goals in 16 Ligue 1 appearances so far this term, showing great potential.

The South African is a powerful, agile and pacey centre-forward who is always on the move, causing problems for the defenders.

Confident on the ball, Lebo Mothiba may not be the most technically-gifted of forward but he compensates with his work rate, clever movement and efficiency in front of the goal. The Johannesburg native is deadly inside the box and is adept at scoring headers as well.

Although Lebo Mothiba is an unproven talent, he could certainly play a starring role in Norwich’s promotion push this season. Not only will he compete with the in-form Pukki but also beef up the squad for the crucial second half of the campaign.

The South African has the quality to win matches on his own and he could be the missing piece in the jigsaw for Norwich’s promotion bid this season.
