Norwich’s attack would achieve PL quality if they sign this experienced Serie A star in the summer

Norwich City Opinion: Should Daniel Farke go for Francesco Caputo?

It’s astonishing to see Norwich City leading the charts in the Championship after such a slow start to the season.

The Canaries have been a thrilling team to watch, with the likes of Mario Vrancic, Moritz Leitner, Onel Hernandez, Max Aarons and Ben Godfrey impressing beyond expectations. But one player has been a standout performer for the club – Teemu Pukki.

Teemu Pukki has been a revelation in the Championship this season. He has scored 23 goals for Daniel Farke’s men, enjoying a brilliant February. He is the Championship’s leading scorer and is one of the major reasons why Norwich City are currently at the top of the table.

Given that Norwich are firm favourites to clinch promotion to the top-flight, Farke has to start plotting his summer activities from now on.

The German manager has a lot of quality in his squad but Premier League football is a different kettle of fish and therefore, he has to make some top quality additions to his ranks this summer.

Farke should prioritise adding another striker to provide competition as well as cover for Pukki. He should make a move for Empoli hitman Francesco Caputo.

Francesco Caputo, 31, joined Empoli from Entella in 2017 and helped the club win the Serie B title and achieve promotion to Serie A during the 2017–18 season.

He finished as the top scorer of the Serie B with 26 goals. The Italian has hit the ground running in the Serie A as well, bagging 12 goals and three assists in 27 appearances across all competitions.

A technically-gifted forward with an eye for goal, Caputo is an out-and-out centre-forward but he likes to drift out wide to make space for teammates in the middle.

The 31-year-old is a decent dribbler in one-vs-one situations, can link up well and threaten the opposition defence with his movement.

His biggest strengths as a player are his tenacity, valor, tactical intelligence, work rate, and his ability to hold the ball up for his teammates. Effective in the air, Caputo can hit the ball sweetly with either foot despite being right footed by nature.

Conclusion

Caputo would be a class act for the Canaries. He is an all-action forward and would complement what Norwich currently have.

Norwich could well be in the top-flight by next season and they’ll definitely need more quality in their attack to rub shoulders with the big teams. All in all, Caputo, who can score as well as assist, would be a top addition.
