Norwich winning the race to sign this 22-year-old Chelsea starlet would serve their PL campaign well next season

Norwich City opinion: Should the Canaries win the race for Kasey Palmer?

The Birmingham Live has reported that both Norwich City and Sheffield United are keen on a move for Chelsea star Kasey Palmer.

The 22-year-old is currently on loan at Bristol City and has made a great impression with the Robins. The report further adds that the Robins do have an option to buy, with Chelsea open to a move for the 22-year-old.

However, if they are open to a move, then it’s one that Norwich City should really consider making, especially given the state of their team. This season, the club has depended a lot on Marco Stiepermann and while the 28-year-old has delivered when required, they need a change.

The Premier League is a totally different animal and one that needs squad depth. Wolves have proven to be an exception to the rule but take a look at the other two teams that were promoted at the start of this season.

Fulham spent an obscene amount of money to retain their status for more than a single season and failed. Cardiff City have had a few issues that were unsolvable and that has hurt them. But none the less, the Bluebirds are struggling and might not survive their first season back in the Premier League.

It’s a warning that Norwich City have to take to heart, especially with their confirmation as a promoted side. The board has given them just £20million to spend to reinforce their side.

Kasey Palmer is just the man they need and the 22-year old’s performances this season have emphasised that statement.

The club needs a back-up star to Marco Stiepermann and that’s exactly what Palmer can be. An attacking midfielder by trade, the 22-year-old joined Chelsea with a lot of promise and potential.

While all that has gone unfulfilled over the last few years, Palmer still remains a brilliant player and is certainly someone who can make an impact in the Premier League.

He’s never made a single appearance for their senior team, but has some experience with four games for Huddersfield under his belt last season.

This combined with Daniel Farke’s ability to bring out the best in players will help the 22-year-old and it’s a race that Norwich City need to win. Especially if they do not want to be back in the Championship by the end of next season.

Conclusion

Norwich City need reinforcements and it has to be the right players in the right areas next summer if they want even a sliver of a chance of surviving. Adding someone like Kasey Palmer will help them to some extent but he cannot be their only signing.
