Norwich City have endured a poor start to the 2019/20 Premier League campaign and currently lie in the relegation zone. However, they ended a long winless run against Everton last weekend, beating Marco Silva’s side 2-0 at the Goodison Park.
The Canaries have leaked goals at an alarming rate in the Premier League and that should concern manager Daniel Farke. They are prone to making collective mistakes at the wrong time to hand a goal or two to the opposition. Farke’s side have conceded 28 goals in 13 games, which is awful for a team that wants to stay in the top-flight for many years.
Injuries have not helped Norwich’s cause, with defenders Timm Klose and Grant Hanley ruled out for long-term. While the return of Christoph Zimmermann from injury has boosted their defence, Farke must prioritise reinforcing his defence in January if his team are to retain their Premier League status. Furthermore, if we take a look at the options they have at the back, it is very limited.
Thus, it’s clear the Canaries can do with a quality centre-back and Farke must make a move for Pawel Bochniewicz, who according to the Sun (h/t The Pink Un) was a target for the Carrow Road outfit in April.
Pawel Bochniewicz joined with Gornik Zabrze on loan from Udinese in January 2018. The defender’s impressive performances in Poland saw Gornik Zabrze sign him permanently this summer. The 23-year-old has started the 2019/20 campaign well, managing 15 appearances so far.
Standing tall at 6ft 4in, Bochniewicz could be the man who could solidify the Canaries’ back-line. He certainly possesses the qualities to make a difference. He certainly has the height and physicality to cope with the hustle and bustle of English football.
Norwich have shown a knack of nurturing young talents, with Todd Cantwell, Max Aarons and Jamal Lewis among many thriving under the stewardship of Farke. Still only 23, Bochniewicz has the right combination of potential and experience.
The Canaries have struggled to cope with life in the Premier League and rightly find themselves in the relegation zone. They must solidify their backline if they are to stay in the top-flight and for that reason, signing Bochniewicz would be a great signing in the winter transfer window.
