Norwich shouldn’t hesitate to sign this Bundesliga star once they get promoted – could be a game-changer

Norwich City Opinion: Should Norwich make a move for Max Kruse?

At the moment, Norwich City and Daniel Farke sit pretty at the top of the Championship table and are on par to win the league and gain promotion. They have a two-point lead over former table-toppers Leeds United, with 10 games left in the season, and things could get very interesting as the title race is still not decided.

Sheffield United are also in the bag and they sit a mere four points behind the Canaries but it’s Farke’s men who look likely to make the jump up.

However, if they do get promoted, the club will have to add reinforcements over the summer, as the Premier League is a different animal when compared to the Championship.

A centre-back, a winger and another central midfielder should be among the Canaries’ top targets but they should also be thinking of adding another striker.

While former Schalke man Teemu Pukki has been in sensational form so far this season, scoring 24 goals and adding another eight assists that could change once they enter the Premier League.

Pukki has struggled to perform at a higher level before with his spells at Schalke and even Celtic. However, with Bundesliga star Max Kruse out of contract at the end of the current season, Norwich City should make the German striker their top target.

A lot like Pukki, Kruse has had his issues both on and off the field but has yet managed to pull through. It’s at Werder Bremen that the 30-year-old has really managed to shine since his return to his boyhood club, making 83 appearances. He has also managed to score 27 goals and create 26 more since his return.

Unlike Pukki, Kruse has always managed to score or create goals consistently for whatever club he has played for. A shadow striker, the 30-year-old isn’t a typical striker, but instead plays as a false nine, which is what Pukki has done at times for Norwich City this season.

While most centre-forwards are out-and-out goal-scorers, Kruse, however, is a facilitator, which is why he excels wherever he goes. His primary ability is not to score goals, but to make himself a menace for defenders and allow others to get into the act.

He uses his intelligence and tactical discipline to take defenders out of the game before applying the killer pass to set teammates clean through. That combined with his work rate and creativity in the final third make him a perfect Daniel Farke signing.

Conclusion

Moreover, he could help Norwich City survive in the Premier League if they do get promoted this season. But a move can only be made once his current contract expires.

With the Express reporting that Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich and even Borussia Monchengladbach are in the race as well, it might be difficult for Norwich to get this guy.
