Norwich City’s raid to sign this 17-year-old Belgian whizkid would be a shrewd move by Farke and here’s why

Norwich City news: Canaries linked with Mbayo

According to a report from PinkUn, Norwich are looking to sign 17-year-old Dylan Mbayo from Belgian Pro League side KSC Lokeren. Mbayo has already played for the Belgian U-17, U-18 and U-19 level.

The Canaries already got one other youngster in Belgium U-17 international Rob Nizet on Monday and are looking to continue in this direction by adding Mbayo.

Mbayo impressed towards the end of the season for Lokeren in the Belgian top-flight despite the side facing relegation and should now be looking towards a step up and finding a new challenge. There aren’t many better destinations to fulfil one’s potential than the English Premier League.

Hannover are also keen on the youngster after their relegation, with fellow Bundesliga II side Holstein Kiel a rival for Mbayo’s signature. However, there is Premier League interest from Norwich and Wolves (h/t PinkUn).

Under Nuno Espirito Santo, Wolves have been a breath of fresh air in the Premier League but it would be ill-advised if he were to move to the Molineux now, as Nuno Santo isn’t flexible with his first-team. He likes to keep a small squad and avoid making too many changes to keep consistency within the team.

Mbayo has football in his roots, being the son to former Lokeren midfielder and Congo international, Marcel Mbayo.

In recent years, Belgium have had great talent coming through, with many of the players from their Golden Generation, making their name in the Premier League. In Nizet and Mbayo, Norwich are obviously not looking at immediate returns but hoping to nurture them into stars for the future.

The Canaries have had some recent success with young players in the form of Nathan Redmond and James Maddison, who ply their trade in the Premier League now. As far as recent examples go, Max Aarons and Ben Godfrey do come to the mind.

Conclusion

Daniel Farke has shown signs of great optimism for the Canaries, leading them to the very top of an extremely competitive season in the Championship.

They must trust him to get the best out of these young players, as was on show last season. Mbayo will a great addition.
