Norwich signing this proven Championship speed demon would make them a dangerous attacking side in the PL next season

Norwich City opinion: Should the Canaries re-ignite a move for Dwight Gayle?

Norwich City finished at the top of the Championship table, which given Leeds United’s dominance was a surprise.

The Whites had the lead for a majority of the season and were the bookies’ favourites to make it back to the top-tier. But fate clearly had other ideas and instead, the Canaries found their way back up.

It’s was partly thanks to Daniel Farke and his tactics but a lot of it was because of the players.

Teemu Pukki flopped at Schalke and Marco Stiepperman also had the same issues elsewhere. But when played together, the two combined for a phenomenal 56 goals. Pukki did play a part in a majority of that total, with 39 goal contributions to his name.

Mario Vrancic, Emiliano Buendia and Onel Hernandez managed to combine to create 55 goals. It’s a stunning return from just five players but Norwich City still need to add reinforcements.

They may not be able to continue that trend in the Premier League, as it’s a lot tougher than the Championship. Space that is available in and around defenders will be tougher to find, especially against the top-six sides.

The top-tier is a much tougher animal and it’s one of the many reasons why they should consider a move for Dwight Gayle. English News outlet the Shields Gazette has reported that the Canaries are interested in the 28-year-old and have made him amongst their targets.

The Newcastle United striker is someone that Norwich City should know very well, having spent the season on loan at West Bromwich.

Furthermore, while on loan, Gayle would go on to score 23 goals in the Championship alone and add a further 8 assists. It’s why a move makes sense. Gayle has spent a lot of time in the Premier League over the last few seasons.

Both spells at Newcastle United and Crystal Palace did not end well for the 28-year-old, with the Magpies looking for someone else. It’s why he spent the season on loan with the Baggies and is now on the lookout for a permanent move.

However, despite that, it seems that all Gayle needed was the right manager. He finished with 20 plus goals for the first time in a long time and in due time, he will be able to do the same for Norwich.

Add that to his 100 Premier League appearances and the Canaries get a valuable star.

Conclusion

Dwight Gayle clearly has no future at Newcastle United and it’s why he needs to start looking for a move away. More than anything, Norwich City is perfect for him and with time, the Canaries will prove to be a great fit.
