According to a report from the Sun, Norwich City are planning a January raid on Stoke City for their star goalkeeper, Jack Butland.
The England international, 26, failed to land a return to the Premier League this summer. But he’ll be desperate to secure a switch away from Stoke City to help himself with his international aspirations. Gareth Southgate has kept him involved within the Three Lions set-up despite Stoke’s relegation last summer.
The report claims Norwich City will plot a move for Jack Butland if the Potters drop their asking price in January. They would be willing to fork out £12-£15million on the English shot-stopper but the Potters are believed to at least want around £25m.
Norwich City have struggled upon their return to the Premier League, managing only three points in four games. Things must change quickly if Daniel Farke and co. are to enjoy a decent campaign in the top-flight.
The Canaries have royally struggled defensively, leaking 10 goals already. A lack of quality in defence means Farke could have a difficult season ahead of him.
In order to avoid a relegation dogfight, Norwich must address their defence when the transfer market reopens in January. And addressing the goalkeeping situation would be crucial as well.
The Canaries signed Ralf Fahrmann on a season-long loan from Schalke in the summer to compete with first-choice Tim Krul. Fahrmann will be used exclusively in cup competitions, meaning Krul is the undoubted no.1 for the Norfolk club.
Despite conceding 10 goals in the opening four games, Krul has every reason to be proud of his start to the season. But Krul is 31 and Michael McGovern, 35, is nearing the end of his career.
Fahrmann is expected to return to Schalke at the end of the season and hence, Farke needs to plan for the long term. That’s why signing Jack Butland would make complete sense for Norwich.

Butland has had a poor start to the Championship campaign as he was culpable for two goals in the 3-1 defeat to Preston. He was dropped in the next two games by Nathan Jones but Stoke had to taste defeats, nevertheless.
The 26-year-old may have been poor between the sticks this term but one cannot take away his quality and top-flight experience, and right now, he would be a smart addition to Norwich’s ranks.
Norwich have an exciting team and it’s upon Farke to get the best out of his players but he’ll need to sort out the goalkeeping situation for the future. And Butland could represent a sound long-term investment for the Canaries.
