Norwich City opinion – Canaries in for Kalvin Phillips – Good move?

According to a report in Daily Mail, Norwich City and Bournemouth are interested in signing Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips this summer.

Even though Marcelo Bielsa’s men were dealt with a disappointment of playoff elimination at the hands of Derby County, Phillips had a great season for them in defensive midfield.

Leeds are looking to keep their marquee manager for another season (h/t Daily Mail). However, they won’t be able to guard against the offers coming in for their young star in this transfer window. (h/t Daily Mail)

Premier League new boys Norwich would aim to operate on a limited budget (h/t Daily Mail) but they won’t shy away from making a £12m bid for the 23-year-old, who was also in the Championship Team of the Season (h/t Daily Mail).

Here’s why the Canaries should go all out and make this deal happen:

Norwich may need Phillips in the Premier League

Kalvin Phillips is a quality defensive midfielder, who can drop into central defence if required. He possesses good passing skills from deeper positions, which helps in dictating the tempo of the game.

The 23-year-old reads the game well to make attack-breaking interceptions and win the ball back for his team. He is physically strong on the ball and can win aerial duels as well despite not being the tallest player around.

All in all, he is a type of player any team would like to have. Norwich have done well to get promoted to the Premier League, however, their defence and defensive midfield did leak in goals for fun at times.

While they got away with those things in the Championship, it won’t be the case when they begin their adventure in top-flight football.

For that reason, Daniel Farke’s men do need a high-quality defensive midfielder. Hence, making an offer for Kalvin Phillips does make a lot of sense.

Conclusion

Therefore, the Canaries must be proactive in the market and put the offer on the table for Phillips’s signature. They need to make sure Bournemouth don’t come first in this race.
