According to a report in Daily Mail, Manchester United are lining up a move to sign £30m-rated Monaco defender Benoit Badiashile, if their attempts to sign Leicester City centre-back Harry Maguire doesn’t come to fruition.
The Red Devils have been monitoring the progress of the 18-year-old, who has made giant strides in the last 12 months (h/t Daily Mail). He played for the Monaco first-team last season, having been with them in the youth academy.
United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has repeatedly iterated the fact that he wants to sign young players with potential and groom them to become world-beaters. (h/t Daily Mail)
If the club manages to sign Badiashile, it will fall into the category of a transfer their manager prefers to make.
As per a latest report in Telegraph, Manchester United and Leicester are in an impasse situation where the fee valuation of Maguire continues to be apart.
Here’s why Solskjaer’s men should sign Badiashile, irrespective of whether the England international leaves the King Power Stadium or not:
Benoit Badiashile is a talented centre-back, who has developed his game well in the past 12 months. Being a Monaco academy product, the France U19 international played 20 Ligue 1 games last season and fared well.
In terms of attributes, the 18-year-old is physically strong and doesn’t mind contesting aerial duels with centre-forwards. He reads the game well to defend the space at the back and make important interceptions/clearances.
The only part of his game that needs ironing out is passing out from the back and recovery pace to catch the runs of forwards in counter-attacking situations.
These two are something that can be worked on and improved upon in a short period of time, especially for a player who has improved considerably over the course of last year and seems to be adding qualities to his game at a fast rate.
United manager Solskjaer, who prefers to sign young players with potential and groom them, could well be fulfilling his own demands by signing Badiashile this summer.
All in all, we can conclude by saying that the Red Devils should sign the young Frenchman, regardless of whether Harry Maguire joins them or not.
