No Maddison, no problem – Leicester City must turn their focus on this creative 24-year-old playing for rivals

Why Leicester City should make a move for Jack Grealish in January

According to a report from the Metro, Manchester United are plotting a January swoop for Leicester City playmaker James Maddison, who is likely to cost around £80 million.

After signing Harry Maguire from Leicester in the summer, a January bid from the Red Devils is expected for Maddison, although the Foxes are not believed to be willing to sell until the end of the season.

Maddison, 22, moved to the King Power Stadium last season and wasted little time establishing himself as a household name. He created more chances than anyone else in the Premier League previous campaign and has started the 2019/20 in fine form as well, perhaps catching Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s attention.

Solskjaer wants a player to solve his side’s creativity issues in midfield and Maddison could be the ideal fit at Old Trafford. United spent a world-record fee to land Maguire in August and could invest heavily again to raid the Foxes for their creative gem.

If Leicester are tempted by United’s offer for Maddison and sell him in January, Brendan Rodgers should make a move for Aston Villa skipper, Jack Grealish.

Jack Grealish, 24, was one of the driving forces behind Aston Villa’s promotion to the Premier League in May. He has blown hot and cold so far in the Premier League but one cannot deny his talent and quality to change games in a blink of an eye.

The 24-year-old could be the ideal replacement for Maddison at Leicester. In Brendan Rodgers, Grealish will be playing under a coach with a proven track record of harnessing young talent and stimulating it to another level. He is a creative no.10 by trade but can play in a deeper role or on the left flank as and when required.

The former England Under-21 international loves being the centre of attention on the pitch; he is always looking for the ball, drawing fouls and winding up the opposition defenders and taking all the set-pieces.

Some might call it being cocky but Grealish has a swagger and confidence in his ability on the ball to pull off some audacious bits of skill.

The Birmingham-born man has the creative ability to unlock tough defences and win matches, just like Maddison can.

Verdict

All in all, Grealish has frightening potential and Leicester would find their ideal Maddison replacement if they signed him. Hence, the Foxes must reignite their interest in the Aston Villa playmaker in January.
