No De Gea, no problem – This 23-year-old UCL semifinalist would be a perfect replacement for the Man United star

Manchester United opinion: Should the Red Devils sign Andre Onana?

Manchester United are lucky that they even finished in the top six after an inconsistent, hot and cold season they had. Things started off badly and then it continued that way with Jose Mourinho eventually getting sacked and replaced by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The Norwegian then proceeded to change the team about and injected hope into the side. That proved to stop the bleeding for some time and for a moment there, the Red Devils looked like they were back on track after a string of wins. It saw Solskjaer get the job permanently.

That is when the cracks that had been papered over by tape began to show and the club’s fortunes took a drastic change for the worse. A string of defeats and draws ended in a final day collapse at the hands of the already relegated Cardiff City, which just happened to be the final blow.

In the end, Manchester United finished in sixth place and will play Europa League football next season. Things could have been worse but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has a lot of work to do with the squad.

But their biggest issue will be David De Gea. The Spaniard was out of contract at the end of this season but the club activated a one-year extension.

That keeps him at the club for a little longer and the Red Devils do want him to sign a brand new deal. But he wants his wages to be around what Alexis Sanchez gets.

That has changed things for Manchester United and thus, negotiations have stalled, which is what PSG have taken full advantage of. But it seems that Manchester United are not far behind, with the Metro reporting that Andre Onana is their top replacement.

The Cameroonian star is arguably one of the best options to replace the Spaniard. Like every single Ajax player this season, Onana has endured a superb season and has done it despite going under the radar playing alongside the likes of Frenkie De Jong and Matthijs de Ligt.

An uber confident goalkeeper, the 23-year-old is the definition of a modern goalkeeper. That simply means that he is as comfortable using his feet and also catching the ball.

Combine that with his reflexes, his age and the confidence in his box, with over 120 appearances for the Dutch giants, it would be a great move for Manchester United.

Conclusion

Andre Onana is possibly the best player that Manchester United could get to replace David De Gea and add reinforcements elsewhere.

At the moment, the club cannot add a superstar goalkeeper if they do lose the Spaniard and the Cameroonian is a sensational choice to have.
