Leicester City opinion: Three replacements for Ben Chilwell
The Englishman finished as arguably one of the best left-backs in the league and that has caught the eye of quite a few clubs. From Atletico Madrid, all the way to Manchester City, have all been interested in a move for Chilwell.
However, it seems that the Los Rojiblancos are the ones really making headways, with the Guardian reporting that the La Liga giants want him as a replacement for Felipe Luis.
That does leave Leicester City in a small pickle but it’s not one they will be worried about too much.
The footballing world is a massive place and they can easily get a replacement even for someone as talented as Ben Chilwell.
Kieran Tierney
The best option, Tierney has been tearing up the Scottish Premiership since his debut and has been linked with a move to the Premier League. But with Brendan Rodgers now joining Leicester City, it gives the Foxes a slight advantage in the race for the young star.
The 21-year-old has been a big star at Celtic and will only improve with time. Given that the Premiership is a lot like the physical Premier League, the young Scottish international should be able to make the transition quite easily.
However, his athleticism and intelligence will also help, making him a like-to-like replacement for Chilwell. But with Arsenal also in the race, it does complicate things and maybe Rodgers can use his previous relationship with the young Celtic star to lure him to the King Power.
James Tavernier
Another Premiership star, the 27-year-old maybe a right-back by trade but he’s someone who is versatile enough to play anywhere across the backline. It’s that skill that has made the Rangers star a coveted player, with Leicester having been linked with a move recently.
It should come as no surprise, however, with the Rangers star finishing his season with a rather stunning 17 goals and 20 assists. This includes 11 goals and 14 assists just in the Premiership, which showcases just why he’d be a great signing.
The definition of an attacking full-back, the 27-year-old combines his attacking instincts with great defensive work. The fact that he can act as a cover for any defensive position will only add to his value.
Luke Thomas
An out of the box option, Thomas is still a little young but on this day, there is no such thing as too young. Kylian Mbappe made his debut as a 16-year-old and Trent Alexander-Arnold started playing regular football for Liverpool as an 18-year-old.
It’s why the 17-year-old Thomas would actually be a bonafide option for the Foxes. This season, the young starlet has played for both the U-18s and the U-23s, making a big impact for both sides.
Add that to the fact that Thomas has contributed to 9 goals in 24 appearances, and it shows just how talented the young Englishman is. Ben Chilwell also clawed his way up from the youth squads, so there is no reason why Luke Thomas cannot do the same.
The Foxes have not been linked with Luke Thomas but the player would be a good addition to this Leicester squad.
