No Cech, no problem – Arsenal’s GK department would become mighty strong with the addition of this La Liga star

Arsenal opinion: Emery wants Norberto Murara Neto – a good choice?

Arsenal are in trouble. Petr Cech has officially retired, well it will be official once the Europa League season ends and that puts the club in hot water. It leaves them without a back-up goalkeeper and that is something that every club needs.

Sure, they have Emiliano Martinez out on loan at Reading, where the 27-year-old has impressed but he isn’t a possible option. Four years ago he could have been considered. But since then, the Argentine has struggled to showcase any potential for growth and now at the age of 27, he’s in his prime years.

Yet, Martinez shows no signs of improvement and at a club like Arsenal that is a death sentence. Yet, he remains at the club, which means that manager Unai Emery does see something in him.

But for a club chasing after the glory that Champions League provides and at the same time chasing after the Premier League trophy, they need something more. Someone who can provide first-team star Bernd Leno with some competition for his place.

Even Cech couldn’t do that, as the former Chelsea man struggles with the ball at his feet. Barring that, the Czech Republic legend is a world-class option but when it comes to a modern keeper, Cech falls well short.

That’s why Leno eventually replaced him at the helm and became the club’s first choice Premier League goalkeeper.

It’s also why Arsenal need to start the search for other options and Valencia’s Neto is one.

English news outlet Football.London has reported that Noberto Murara, otherwise known as Neto, has found himself on Arsenal’s radar. The report adds that the Gunners have already made contact as they look towards the future.

However, they’ve failed with said contact as the 29-year-old was not impressed by the club’s offer. And the fact that Neto has a contract with Valencia till 2022, means that he will command a decent fee.

For Arsenal, this should be one of their top priorities, especially if the club ever wants to succeed again. The Brazilian is very experienced and was a reliable shot-stopper during his two-year stint with the club, after joining from Juventus.

He spent two years with the Serie A giants, joining them from Fiorentina where he really flourished. It was there that Neto really showcased what he could do, proving to be the modern goalkeeper that Arsenal needs.

Conclusion

Arsenal needs backup all across their team-sheet and while their defence should be their main priority, adding a new goalkeeper has to be second on that list.

Neto ticks a lot of boxes for the club. He could be just the man to help Bernd Leno improve even further.
