Newcastle using the chance to offload £2m star would be a win-win for all parties involved – agreed?

Newcastle United opinion – Achraf Lazaar open for an exit – Good move?

According to a report in Chronicle Live, Sheffield Wednesday have opened talks to sign Newcastle midfielder Achraf Lazaar on a permanent basis. The 27-year-old is currently on loan with the Owls and now Steve Bruce wants to sign him, as he aims for a promotion push next season.

The Moroccan international has two years left on his contract at St.James’ Park, however, it doesn’t look like the player will be returning to Tyneside in the coming summer.

Lazaar himself mentioned that he would be happy to continue his stay at Wednesday, this time on a permanent basis (h/t Chronicle Live). He was injured for the most part this season but has taken part in four games over the past couple of months.

It is clear that the midfielder’s fitness will improve as months go by and he could be a key player in Sheffield Wednesday’s squad come next season. Here’s why Newcastle are right to offload him in the summer:

Lazaar is not in Benitez’s plans

Newcastle signed Lazaar for a fee of around £2m in the summer of 2016, (h/t Sky Sports) the first pre-season under Rafa Benitez. He played four games in a successful campaign for the Magpies.

The Moroccan was then sent on a season-long loan to Benevento next year, but he featured only nine times there. He came back to Tyneside last summer and played four games for the Newcastle U23 in the first half of this season.

The left-sided midfielder eventually joined Sheffield Wednesday on a short-term loan in January and has been a part of that setup since.

Furthermore, Owls’ manager Steve Bruce has made it clear he would like the Moroccan to stay with his team on a long-term basis. (h/t Chronicle Live)

Conclusion

As mentioned in the report, Lazaar is not in Benitez’s plans at Newcastle, (h/t Chronicle Live) thus, it would make sense for Newcastle to sell him in the summer transfer window, especially because there is a buyer for him in Sheffield Wednesday.

The player also wants to stay with the Owls, as he thinks he would get more opportunities to showcase his qualities (h/t Chronicle Live). Therefore, this deal would please all the parties.
