Newcastle United’s Takeover Plans, If Completed Could Help The Club Land This La Liga Star As A Marquee Signing

Why Newcastle United Should Make A Move For Villarreal Goal-Scoring Machine Cedric Bakambu

Newcastle United are being linked with a move to sign Villarreal goal-scoring machine Cedric Bakambu. The 26-year-old has been in spectacular form for the Spanish club and he seems to show no signs of slowing down. He played in France with Sochaux and then moved on to play for Bursaspor in Turkey, following which he sealed a move to Villarreal in 2015. He has been stunning for the club and even went on to smash 22 goals in his first season there.

He could only score 12 goals last season but this time, he has already scored 9 goals in 14 games. In fact, the Magpies have sent scouts to monitor his performances and the reports are believed to be positive. Hence, with the January window coming up, Bakambu has become a prime target for Newcastle.

As one might have noticed, Newcastle are in dire need of signing a new striker – a proven quality player who can rise even to the toughest of challenges. Their two top goalscorers in the Premier League this season are Joselu and defender Jamaal Lascelles, who have both managed to net 2 goals so far. These numbers paint a rather gloomy picture for Rafa Benitez since the club made a strong start to their campaign.

Bakambu does have the strength to deal with the rigours of the Premier League. He is a clinical finisher and is adept at scoring even in the most unlikely situations. What Benitez will need to keep in mind though is the fact that the Villarreal player can flit in and out of form quite easily. To avoid that, he will need to play him regularly and considering the current situation at St. James’ Park, that shouldn’t be much of an issue.

If they are to maintain that momentum, Benitez needs to find a player who can score goals week in and week out on a regular basis. That is exactly what Bakambu has been doing at Villarreal. He has exhibited a natural ability to attack and score goals, while also being adept at using his pace to make incisive runs.

However, Bakambu won’t come cheap and Newcastle will need their proposed takeover to happen soon if they are to land the striker in January. If the deal goes through, there is no doubt that Bakambu will be the marquee signing for the club. There is a void at Newcastle that Bakambu can fill, and considering the exciting way they are playing under Benitez, it will be a new challenge for the striker to consider.
