Why Newcastle United should sign Facundo Colidio from Inter Milan?

According to a report in Chronicle Live, Newcastle United are closing in on a loan move for Inter Milan forward Facundo Colidio, with an option to buy in the future.

The youngster scored 12 goals and assisted six of them for the Inter youth team last season and impressed many around. He is also an Argentina U20 international.

Colidio joined the Inter U19 team back in the summer of 2017 from the Boca U20 side. He has since then played for their U-19 team in UEFA youth league games and also in the Primavera.

Coming back to Newcastle United, they have done some good business in the last few days with the addition of Joelinton and Allan Saint-Maximin. Here’s why they would be right to add Colidio to their squad ahead of the start of the new campaign:

Colidio could be a decent backup option

Facundo Colidio is a quality young talent, who prefers to play as a centre-forward but is comfortable playing on the left-wing if required by the team and situation.

He played 31 games in all competitions for the Inter youth, scoring 12 goals and assisting a further six. During that time, the Argentina U20 international was used in both the positions mentioned above.

In terms of his attributes, Colidio has good pace to trouble the defences and is good at dribbling the ball. He can also finish off the chances with regularity and can link up play with others.

The only drawback to his game is the lack of physicality, which would come as he becomes older and gains more experience.

Newcastle have signed very good players to enhance the quality of their forward line but they could do with the youngster signing for them. He can be their perfect backup option, who can play in two positions.

Conclusion

Thus, it has to be said that Steve Bruce’s men shouldn’t hesitate in making a move for Facundo Colidio. The Argentine’s addition would add strength in depth in their forward line, which could help the team challenge for a top-half finish.
