Why signing Markus Henriksen will strengthen Newcastle’s attack massively

According to reports from Hull Live, Hull City captain Markus Henriksen could possibly make a switch to St. James’ Park in the summer transfer window, with Newcastle United said to be very keen on the Norwegian attacker’s signature.

The former AZ Alkmaar player was recently handed the captain’s armband by manager Nigel Adkins as he has displayed his quality throughout the season. Despite his good showings, he only has six months remaining on his current contract with the Tigers.

Newcastle have had a very average season this term when compared to their impressive 10th-place finish from last season. Currently in 16th place and just a single point away from the dreaded relegation zone, Rafa Benitez will be hoping to guide his team to safety yet again this term.

They have looked pretty defensively sound this campaign with Fabian Schar, Florian Lejeune and captain Jamaal Lascelles all performing up to high standards. The latter has been very good this season and his defensive stats back this up as well.

While their rear-guard doesn’t need too much work, it’s the attack that has been causing Benitez’s men a multitude of problems. While the midfield of Issac Hayden and Sean Longstaff has really clicked so far, their wingers Ayoze Perez and Christian Atsu just aren’t creating enough.

As suggested by Hull Live, Newcastle are eyeing up a summer move for Tigers skipper Markus Henriksen in their bid to create a more potent attacking force. His addition to the ranks will add a new weapon to the Magpies’ attack.

Originally an attacking midfielder, he has been utilised in central midfield by Hull. But given their current inability to score goals, a formational change to fit Henriksen into the attacking-midfield role to support Salomon Rondón or new signing Miguel Almiron could be a masterstroke by Rafa.

His movement and runs are bound to cause any opposition defence trouble while his ability to pick out threaded through balls is second to none. His vision and passing range make him an excellent option and with players like Hayden and Longstaff to support him defensively, he could flourish at St.James’ Park.

He has played 27 games for Hull this campaign and has contributed with two goals as well. His versatility will suit Rafa’s preference to alter the formation based on the opposition. Overall, this would be a great move by the Magpies if they pull it off in the summer.
