Newcastle United opinion: Should the Magpies go for Juan Mata?
One of Newcastle United’s biggest issue this season has been a severe lack of creativity for the side, with the Magpies depending heavily on the full-backs.
However, that changed with the arrival of Miguel Almiron and the Paraguayan’s direct running and fearlessness, all combined together to inject hope into the side.
It was arguably the turning point of their season and more importantly, it’s something that should have happened much earlier. They were heavily linked for most of the January window, with the move eventually taking place on deadline day.
His arrival changed everything for the club and before his season-ending injury, Almiron played every game.
This is one of the many reasons why the club should look towards adding another attacking midfielder, especially if they want to thrive and not just survive in the Premier League.
In Rafael Benitez, the Magpies have a manager that is good enough to push them even higher. But to do that he needs backing and the right players to help him out. Their primary concern should either be a permanent move for Salomon Rondon or a brand new reliable goalscoring striker.
An attacking midfielder will help them but it has to be the right man. The Mirror has reported that Juan Mata is their top target and the Spaniard is the perfect man. Currently, at Manchester United, he is out of contract with the midfielder’s father revealing that there is a renewal on the table.
But the Spanish star hasn’t signed any deal at the moment. That means that as it stands, he leaves Old Trafford to join the chaotic world of free-agency at the end of the season.
For Newcastle, given their financial climate, a move for a free agent makes a lot of sense but only if they get it done as soon as possible. Simply because Barcelona have been linked in the past and the lure of Camp Nou might prove to be just too much.
However, with the right contract and the right wages, the club could win the race, albeit it’s a small chance.
Nevertheless, no matter how small, the Magpies have to try because even on his worst day, Juan Mata is an absolute gem to have on the team.
An attacking midfielder by trade, the former Real Madrid youth product is a creative genius. But at the same time is versatile enough to play across the front-line. That allows him to use a rather surprising turn of pace to great effect time after time.
It has seen him contribute to 82 goals in 218 appearances for Manchester United. Add that to his 135 appearances for Chelsea and Newcastle United get a Premier League experienced creative star for free.

Juan Mata is exactly the top level star that Newcastle United need to push them into another level that they can hit under Rafael Benitez.
Furthermore, his creative abilities from the middle of the park will help change the way the club plays and given them so many more outlets going forward.
