According to a report from the Sun, Newcastle United have made a move to bring Young Boys’ star full-back Loris Benito to St James’ Park in the summer. The 27-year-old’s current deal with the Swiss giants will expire in the summer and the Magpies are keen to bring him in on a free.
The Magpies have survived relegation, yet again, thanks to Rafa Benitez’s tactical brilliance. Newcastle have lost just 4 of their last 10 games in the Premier League and are almost certain to finish 14th this season.
The biggest issue surrounding the club at the moment is Rafa Benitez’s contract talks. The former Liverpool boss has made it clear that he will sign only if Newcastle owner Mike Ashley backs him in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Sanctioning a move for free agent Loris Benito should be an easy decision for Mike Ashley in the summer and if that along with a few more signings can entice Benitez to stay, Newcastle United fans can be hopeful of good things in the coming years.
Signing Loris Benito makes a lot of sense considering Newcastle problems at left-back this season. The injury to Paul Dummett forced Benitez to push Matt Ritchie into the left-back role and in all fairness, the veteran has been brilliant.
Antonio Barreca’s loan signing in January hasn’t quite worked out, with the Italian featuring in just 7 games since. The signing of a new left-back is a necessity in the summer and Loris Benito on a free would be a fantastic addition.
Benito has missed just 4 games all season for Young Boys and he has played a huge part in helping them lead the league by a 20-point margin.
In his 28 games, the 27-year-old has scored once and assisted 6 times in the league, which is an exceptional return for someone who has also been used as a centre-half on multiple occasions.
The Swiss international’s experience of over 200 senior club games has been used to full effect by his side at the back and the same will be of incredible importance for the Magpies if they sign him.

Newcastle United will solve their woes at left-back if they manage to sign Loris Benito in the summer. The Swiss international’s quality, experience and versatility will be a bonus for the Magpies and he would thrive under Rafa Benitez if he stays beyond the end of this season.
