Newcastle signing this 23-year-old FC Porto star is an absolute no-brainer and Benitez must get him

Why Newcastle United must break the bank for Otavio in January

Rafael Benitez has fired a warning to the Newcastle United board that the club will need a miracle to avoid relegation from the Premier League this season.

Newcastle United failed to get a single shot on target last weekend against Fulham – Premier League’s leakiest defence. The Magpies are five points clear of the drop zone with a superior goal difference, but with trips to Liverpool and Watford before a home game against Manchester United, things could go from bad to worse in no time for Rafael Benitez.

So after the dour 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Liverpool yesterday, it is very clear where Newcastle need to concentrate in the forthcoming January transfer window. The Toon Army are in dire need of adding some fresh attacking talent to their roster as a result of the club losing 10 of the 19 league games played this season so far.

Summer signing Salomon Rondon has shown remarkable progress in the last few weeks after a slow start to life at Tyneside. He has scored or assisted in three of the last five matches and is becoming a key player for Benitez. But the Venezuelan has found very little support from his fellow attackers, with the likes of Kenedy, Matt Ritchie, Ayoze Perez and Yoshinori Muto underperforming.

To provide support to Rondon and also bring creativity to the side, Benitez should target FC Porto ace Otavio in January.

The 23-year-old Otavio has put in eye-catching performances for Portuguese champions Porto this season, scoring two goals and supplying four assists in 12 league games so far. He also scored twice in the Champions League, helping Porto top the group D ahead of the likes of Schalke, Galatasaray and Lokomotiv Moscow.

Speaking about his style of play, Otavio, who is currently sidelined by a minor injury, is an attacking midfielder by trade but he is versatile enough to operate on the flanks as well. His main attributes are his lightning pace, mesmerising dribbling skills and instant acceleration.

An explosive attacker, the Brazilian is known for his quick feet, exceptional close control and unpredictable movement in the final third, and can be a handful for any opposition on a given day. In addition to his pace, Otavio is a dual threat when it comes to scoring and creating chances.

Furthermore, the Brazilian has an incredible eye for goal and tries to shoot at every possible opportunity, keeping the defenders on their toes all the time.

Newcastle need an explosive and energetic player to add that cutting-edge to their attack. Otavio would be a fantastic addition to the Magpies as he would provide the much-needed spark and thrust Benitez is desperately looking for.

At 23, Otavio has the best years ahead of him and Newcastle must not hesitate to break the bank for the talented Brazilian as they look to avoid the drop this season.
