Newcastle United have reached an agreement to sign France international right-back Mathieu Debuchy from Ligue 1 side Lille, Britain’s Press Association confirmed earlier today.
The right back was a target of Alan Pardew’s in the summer but Lille were unwilling to let him go until they had signed a replacement. Djibril Sidibe was confirmed as signed from Troyes last week, enabling Pardew to have a £5m offer accepted for Debuchy.
He will be joining up with former teammate Yohan Cabaye.
This appears to be yet another great signing for the Magpies and a French first choice international for £5m may cushion the blow on the Toon supporters that have to almost certainly accept that their star striker is on his way out for a painfully low price.
