Newcastle letting their on-loan star leave would be utterly foolish and Benitez must keep him at the club

Newcastle United opinion: The Magpies should not sell Dwight Gayle

According to a report from The Chronicle Live, Newcastle United are prepared to let Dwight Gayle and Jacob Murphy leave the club for West Brom but the Magpies want three players in exchange.

The report reveals that Newcastle are demanding Kieran Gibbs, Jake Livermore and their top scorer Salomon Rondon; in exchange for the duo.

Rondon has had a brilliant loan spell with the Toons so far, having scored 10 goals and provided 5 assists in all competitions so far. His performances have made him a fan-favourite at St James Park and Newcastle want to sign him on a permanent deal in the summer.

However, Rafa Benitez would be making a massive mistake by letting Dwight Gayle leave, especially after the season he has had for the Baggies in the Championship so far.

The 28-year-old has scored 17 goals and has 7 assists for the Baggies this campaign and has played a massive part in West Brom’s bid to regain promotion to the Premier League next season.

The Baggies are currently 4th in the table but they have been inconsistent. However, with 6 games left to play, Gayle’s influence will be crucial for the Baggies’ qualification prospects to the Premier League next season.

Gayle has settled in wonderfully at the Hawthorns and West Brom’s intention to sign him is justified but with Newcastle’s potential problems up top, Rafa Benitez should be against the idea of selling Dwight Gayle in the summer.

Gayle would be an ideal fit in this current Newcastle side, thanks to the incredible pace they possess in their attack. The signing of Miguel Almiron has bolstered the Magpies’ attack massively and the addition of Gayle should have a positive impact next season.

Gayle’s versatility will also provide a ton of opportunities to Rafa Benitez, who can play him with or in place of Salomon Rondon next season.

The 28-year-old can also be played just behind Rondon, and his pace combined with the Venezuelan’s physicality could be a lethal combination for Benitez to have at his disposal.

Conclusion

Newcastle would be foolish to let Dwight Gayle leave in the summer, irrespective of which player comes in for him in the deal. Gayle’s contribution in attack would be a massive asset for the Magpies next season and they should bring him back at all costs.
