Newcastle landing this top-class MLS star in January would quite easily save them from relegation this season

Why Miguel Almiron’s signing could change Newcastle’s fortunes

Under the guidance of Rafa, Newcastle have not started the season quite as well as they’d have hoped. The main concern seems to be that the goals have dried up. Half of the 18/19 premier league season is officially over and Boxing Day celebrates the start of the 2nd half of the campaign.

The Magpies have only scored 14 goals in the 19 games so far this season and have the 2nd least number of goals in the tournament behind only to newly promoted Huddersfield Town – currently languishing at 19th place.

A consistent goal-scorer is an urgent necessity at Newcastle. According to The Express, Miguel Almiron – attacking midfielder for Atlanta United FC of the MLS, is close to a switch to the Premier League and Newcastle are keen on the player.

Almiron is a very potent attacking player who makes tricky runs into the box to get on the end of things. He is extremely quick off the ball and surprisingly, he seems to be even faster with it. Showing a sudden burst of pace, he can create a good distance between him and his opponents by strong and powerful running.

He scored 13 goals for Atlanta in the MLS last season – one less than what Newcastle have managed so far this season. This is a move that is bound to bolster the Magpies squad. Rafa should try and push for this deal before the winter window ends as his side could be in trouble if their goal drought continues.

Just 25 years old, this Paraguayan international has 12 caps for his country and was drafted into the MLS all-star team for the last 2 seasons. He was also a part of the Atlanta side that recently won the MLS Cup.

Quite a complete player, his passing, shooting, crossing and dribbling are all very impressive and he excels at taking on long shots, which could be just the confidence boost that Newcastle need at this stage.

Rafa needs things to start going his way and for that to happen, a signing or two are required urgently. While there are other areas they could improve, with the experienced likes of Salomon Rondon, Joselu and Ayoze Perez within their ranks, Almiron might as well be the man to open the floodgates at Newcastle.
