Newcastle United Opinion: Benitez should make a move for Erkan Eyibil
The Shields Gazette has reported that Newcastle United have entered the race for Mainz 05 youngster Erkan Eyibil. Someone who is similar to Mesut Ozil, the Turkish/German starlet has made quite a name for himself playing for Mainz’s youth teams over the last few years.
The report further adds that West Ham are also in the race but given the Magpies’ situation, they have to take charge. While Miguel Almiron’s arrival has shored things up for now, eventually, the honeymoon phase will end and things will go back to normal.
Not to mention, Ayoze Perez’s inconsistent run of form will eventually hit them again but at the moment, things are going good at St James’ Park. Not only are the Magpies seven points clear of the relegation zone, but they’ve also managed just one loss in their last five games.
That has pushed them out of the relegation zone and into contention for a potential 11th or even 10th-placed finish, which says a lot given where they were sitting a few months ago. Yet, their team is far from perfect and Newcastle United need a few new additions.
Their midfield needs new additions and their front-line is overly dependent on loanee Salomon Rondon.
Things will get worse but adding a burgeoning youth talent like Erkan Eyibil will undoubtedly shore up the team. An exquisite player to watch, the Mainz starlet has drawn comparisons to Mesut Ozil and rightly so.
Not only does he share Ozil’s heritage of being both Turkish and German, but they are also visionary playmakers. Eyibil can spot a teammate from absolutely anywhere and has it in his locker to play a gorgeous pass to pick him out.
It’s been on show in the last two seasons, with the 17-year-old picking up an incredible 31 assists in 63 games. To add to that, Eyibil shows incredible composure in front of goal and is even mature enough to take a great penalty, which has also been on seen.
Last season, he finished with 17 goals to his name, and at the moment, he has 9 for this season. For any player in the world, these are absolutely incredible numbers and it emphasises why the Magpies have to beat West Ham to sign the young Erkan Eyibil.

Newcastle United have already shown this season that they need that injection of creativity that Almiron has provided. But at the same time, they have to plan their future and bringing in someone like Erkan Eyibil will most definitely ensure that.
