Newcastle beating Bristol City to seal this £4m deal in the summer would be a massive coup and Benitez must do it

Newcastle United Opinion: Why Newcastle United should beat Bristol City for Kasey Palmer

The Sun has reported that Bristol City are all but ready to sign on-loan Chelsea star Kasey Palmer on a permanent deal. While the 22-year-old only joined the club in the January transfer window, after spending the first six months of the season on loan at Blackburn Rovers, his performances since then have impressed.

As revealed by BBC, the England international is yet to make a senior debut for the Blues. A talented attacking midfielder, Palmer’s performances so far this season has convinced Bristol City to make a move for him. But given his talent at the age of 22, Newcastle United should make the first move.

He moved to Chelsea from Charlton Athletic in 2013 but has since then been shipped out by the Blues on multiple loan spells. This includes time at Huddersfield, Derby County, Blackburn Rovers, and now Bristol City.

Everywhere he went, Palmer impressed. For Huddersfield, he produced 7 goals in 24 appearances in the Championship and while at Derby, he scored 2 goals in 15 appearances.

The 22-year-old’s time at Blackburn Rovers wasn’t the best, with him struggling to make an impact but he still managed three goals in the first half of the 2018/19 season. A move to Bristol City beckoned and the young midfielder has made the most of his chances.

A bargain at £4million, for Newcastle United, it represents a chance at someone who could be potential star in the near future. The Magpies were interested in a move for Palmer during the summer window (Daily Mail) but nothing materialized as Chelsea opted to keep the midfielder.

Things could change in the near future and if there is one club that need another midfielder, it’s the Magpies. While they may have added Miguel Almiron to their books, Kasey Palmer is a long-term move and he could ensure their future.

Not only has Ayoze Perez struggled to make an impact this season, but Palmer’s ability to play across the front-line does make him useful.

However, with Bristol City in the way and offering a bonafide route to first-team football, the Magpies will face a battle to convince the young midfielder to sign for them.
