“My man of the match”, “He will grow”: Some Arsenal fans praise youngster after impressive 4-1 win + Match report

Arsenal 4-1 Fulham: Gunners bounce back after Anfield humiliation

Arsenal returned to winning ways by beating fellow London opponents Fulham 4-1 at the Emirates Stadium on New Year’s Day. Goals from Granit Xhaka, Alexandre Lacazette, Aaron Ramsey and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang sealed the deal for the Gunners. Aboubakar Kamara did pull one back for the Cottagers but it wasn’t enough.

Claudio Ranieri’s men had two glorious chances to take the lead, but neither was taken well by the young Ryan Sessegnon. The first was one-on-one with Bernd Leno and he hit the shot wide. The second was a great cross from Andre Schurrle and the youngster missed his kick at the far.

Arsenal then punished these missed chances when Granit Xhaka scored, unmarked in the box with a cross coming in from Alex Iwobi. Unai Emery’s men doubled the lead after half-time after a good piece of play ended with Lacazette having a simple task of waiting and burying the chance.

Around the 70th minute, Fulham pulled one back when a Sessegnon cross found Kamara at the far post unmarked. The home side restored the two-goal lead through Aaron Ramsey nine minutes later, and Aubameyang sealed things with a customary goal at the Emirates.

This win keeps Arsenal in fifth position, six points clear of sixth-placed Manchester United, who have a game in hand tomorrow. About the big picture, it was important for Emery’s men to win after a humiliating loss at Liverpool three days earlier.
