“My heart can’t take more”, “This is killing me”: Some Liverpool fans go mad as Klopp’s men take the title race to the final day + Match report

Newcastle United v Liverpool Report – Liverpool Match Report

Liverpool somehow managed to beat all the odds and defeat Newcastle United 3-2 at St. James’ Park to take this incredible title race to the final day.

Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Divock Origi were the scorers for the Reds while the home side equalised twice through Christian Atsu and Salomon Rondon.

Jurgen Klopp’s men took the lead in the 13th minute when a Trent Alexander-Arnold corner was met sweetly by Van Dijk, unmarked six yards away from goal.

The Geordies equalised seven minutes later when an initial effort from Rondon was blocked off the line by Alexander-Arnold, but Atsu was on hand to strike the rebound home.

Liverpool snatched the lead back in the 28th minute when the Trent delivered a flat cross towards Salah in the box, who then improvised well to put the ball into the back of the net.

Nine minutes into the second half, Newcastle equalised for the second time when Rondon rifled his shot home following a second phase from the corner.

Salah then got a whack from Martin Dubravka and was stretchered off. However, the Egyptian’s replacement, Divock Origi, scored the eventual winner of the match in the 86th minute. The assist of that goal was supplied by another substitute, Xherdan Shaqiri, who delivered a peach of a ball from a set-piece routine.

What this victory means is that Liverpool are now on 94 points. Irrespective of what Manchester City do against Leicester City on Monday night, this title race will go down to the last day of the season.
