Rangers will look to establish a firm stranglehold on the second place in the Scottish Premiership table when they face off against St. Johnstone at the McDiarmid Park on Tuesday.
The Gers come into the game on the back of four consecutive games in all competitions, with the latest being a 2-0 win over Hearts of Midlothian FC over the weekend. They sit 3 points above Aberdeen who are third in the table and are 9 points shy of leaders Celtic. Manager Graeme Murty will be hoping to make it five wins and reduce the gap at the top.
Murty will go into the game without the services of captain Lee Wallace while the likes of Graham Dorrans, Jordan Rossiter and Ross McCrorie are all sidelined as well. Midfielder Ryan Jack has been ruled out for the season, while Bruno Alves is fit again but is unlikely to be involved.
The Englishman is the undisputed first-choice for the Light Blues and that should stay the same for Tuesday’s game.
The right-back has been one of the Gers’ most consistent players this season and will look to further impress on Tuesday night.
In the heart of the defence, David Bates is expected to start once again. Hasn’t looked all that convincing at times and will be keen on stamping his authority.
The on-loan Norwich City defender scored a goal in the win over Hearts on Saturday and will carry the confidence forward into Tuesday’s game.
The former Cardiff City man has established himself as a key player for the Gers since his move last summer. A definite starter at left-back.
The midfielder was absolutely top notch in Saturday’s win over the Hearts. Seems like a fine acquisition and will want to put on a strong display during the midweek.
The loanee from QPR has struck up a decent partnership with Docherty in the middle of the park. Sure to start at the McDiarmid Park.
The Portuguese winger works really hard on the right-hand side but hasn’t been able to score in his last four league games. Will be keen on changing that against the Saints.
The Englishman has been in fine form of late but did not have the best of games against Hearts last time out. Will want to bounce back with a solid display.
The January arrival from Brighton seems to have settled in nicely. Scored a goal this past weekend and will be looking to make another vital contribution against St. Johnstone.
With Alfredo Morelos not having the best of games against Hearts, Murty might look to hand Jason Cummings a start on Tuesday.
