Muller’s Record Still Intact As Messi Suffered A Knock In His Knee

Lionel Messi remains one goal away from equalling Gerd Muller’s record as he suffered a bruise in his knee and was stretchered off the field during Barcelona’s last group stage match against Benfica.

Tito Vilanova started a second string team after having already qualified for the knockout stages and brought on Messi around the 60th minute mark only to see him get a knock on his knee after colliding with the opposition goalkeeper Artur Moraes.

Talking about the injury after the game, Vilanova said that he does not yet know the extent of Messi’s injury.

“He (Messi) was quiet, but also worried, like any other player who had been injured or hit,” Vilanova said.
“We do not know yet what he has done, but after the check-up from the doctors he was even more quiet, but as I said, we still have to wait and see.”

Messi thanked his fans on Facebook as he revealed about the club’s statements:

Thank you for your concern and messages of encouragement!

I pass the medical services of the club release: Tonight tests confirmed that the player Leo Messi suffered a bone bruise on the outside of your left knee. ” The clinical will mark its availability for the next game Sunday against Betis, as reported by the medical services. ” I want to thank each of you for your messages of support!

I copy the press release of the medical department of FC Barcelona. “Messi has a bruise on the outside of the left knee. “” He will undergo further tests to determine the exact extent of the injury
Messi still has 3 league games and a Copa del Rey match to go past Gerd Muller’s record.
