Why A Move For This Want-Away Chelsea Boy Makes No Sense For Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp is one of the most respected managers in the world of football at the moment and his approach to every aspect of the game is quite refreshing. The manager made some smart purchases in the summer transfer window before the start of the current season and has seen most of the players cement a place in the side. And with Liverpool expected to compete for a place in the Champions League next season, the manager is already looking to add a few quality players to the squad in the summer. This has seen him linked with some of the biggest names in Europe and one name that is constantly doing the rounds recently is Chelsea’s want away boy Dominic Solanke.

The 19-year old, who made his debut for Chelsea a few years ago, was touted as the most exciting talent at the club’s academy not so long ago. However, he has not been able to replicate his form on loan at Vitesse. Chelsea are ready to sign him for another couple of years but Solanke, who is currently on a £10,000-a-week wage is demanding £50,000 a week which Chelsea are not ready to pay. This has seen him linked with an exit from Chelsea, who are ready to let the player leave at the end of his contract. Arsenal, Bayern Munich, West Ham, Newcastle United, and Liverpool are all interested in his signature but here is why he is not the player who is needed at Anfield.

Solanke is a striker who has an eye for the goal. He is a gifted player with decent technique but at his age, he needs to work on quite a lot of things in his game, which would turn him into a better player. He set the field on fire as a teenager during his time in the Stamford Bridge youth setup, but he is yet to prove himself at the highest level and £8m + £50,000-a-week for an unproven star is nothing less than suicidal for Liverpool. Though he would be a free agent, Liverpool will have to pay compensation to Chelsea which is believed to be around 8m Euros.

The Reds have the likes of Roberto Firmino, Divock Origi and Danny Ings in the squad with star striker Daniel Sturridge linked with an exit in the summer. If the English international quits Anfield, Klopp will have to spend big on a star player who can walk into the first team. Liverpool need a player who can score goals consistently and cement a place in the starting XI and Solanke is quite far away from being such a player.

Some might argue that the 19-year old is a decent option for the academy but at the moment, Liverpool have some super talented players in their junior side and Klopp does not need to look too far away for players who can improve his junior side. The German should concentrate on improving the quality of the squad and Solanke, at least in his first season, will not be able to add anything to this Liverpool attack.

At just 19, Solanke has a huge future ahead of him and he may yet turn out to be one of the best strikers in world football. Having said that, he is not an immediate requirement at Anfield and Klopp should search for players that actually solve the problems in the squad. Do you think
