Predicted Manchester United Line-up To Face Tottenham In The FA Cup Semi-final
Manchester United bounced back from the shock 1-0 defeat against basement club West Brom with a professional 2-0 victory at Bournemouth on Wednesday.
With one eye on the FA Cup semi-final against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, Jose Mourinho made seven changes to his side and the move worked well.
Chris Smalling and substitute Romelu Lukaku scored in either half at the Vitality Stadium on Wednesday, which helped United establish a four-point lead over third-placed Liverpool in the table, with four games remaining.
It was a morale-boosting win over the Cherries but Mourinho will expect a much better performance against Spurs in the FA Cup semi-final on Saturday.
So with all eyes on the mouthwatering clash, here is how United might line up against Tottenham.
Probable Manchester United XI
Manager: Jose Mourinho
David De Gea (GK)
The world’s best goalkeeper, De Gea should start against Tottenham at Wembley.
Antonio Valencia (RB)
Valencia has played a lot of games for United this season and was rightfully rested against Bournemouth. Should start against Spurs this weekend.
Chris Smalling (CB)
Smalling has been solid in United’s defence lately. He has made it a habit to pop up with goals but the centre-back will face a stiff test against an attack-minded Tottenham side on Saturday.
Eric Bailly (CB)
Bailly was named as one of the substitutes in the 2-0 win over Bournemouth, which clearly tells that the Ivorian is slated to start in the FA Cup semi-finals.
Ashley Young (LB)
Young’s resurgence in the left-back role continues. The former Aston Villa man has made the left-back position his own this season and continues to impress Mourinho in every game.
Nemanja Matic (CDM)
Since moving from Chelsea, Nemanja Matic has been a mainstay in the Manchester United team this season. He brings a lot of calm in the midfield, covers a lot of ground and keeps United ticking. His presence will be crucial in midfield.
Ander Herrera (RCM)
Herrera’s typical aggressive display against Bournemouth justified why he needs to be selected against a sleek Tottenham side. It will be interesting to see how the Spaniard performs in the FA Cup.
Paul Pogba (LCM)
Against City, Pogba produced his best performance in a United shirt to date and was also good in the win over Bournemouth. United will need their powerful Frenchman to be on song come Saturday.
Alexis Sanchez (LW)
Sanchez dropped to the bench against Bournemouth, which suggests the Chilean could start at the weekend. The forward has looked lost on a number of occasions but he remains one of the very few players capable of producing something out of nothing.
Jesse Lingard (RW)
Lingard has been one of Manchester United’s best players in 2018. His desire and the energy to run non-stop for full 90 minutes has made him a vital player. His pace and intelligence to pick up vacant spaces will be important as United look to beat Spurs.
Romelu Lukaku (ST)
The man who is simply buzzing with confidence, Romelu Lukaku came off the bench to seal the deal against Bournemouth. The big Belgian just cannot stop scoring at the moment and Mourinho will hope his striker delivers the goods against a well-structured Spurs side.
