Three Changes That Tottenham Have To Make After The International Break
With 14 points from 7 games, Tottenham Hotspur are not too far off the pack at the top of the table but Mauricio Pochettino has a few issues in his squad that he needs to address during this international break. While Harry Kane’s form is convincing, not many of Spurs’ players have been consistent this season.
The likes of Dele Alli are yet to find their rhythm this season while injuries to key midfielders have also had their part to play in the troubles. They are in a decent position but they need to start improving, if they are to challenge for the title. Here are three changes Spurs should make to compete with the best after the international break:
Changing The System For Games Against Smaller Clubs
Having won games against West Ham and Everton, Spurs dropped points against Burnley and Swansea, along with Chelsea, but the games against the minnows is what will hurt them. They failed to break the opposition down and took no more than a point from those games and something needs to change quickly. Moving back to a 4-2-3-1, especially with injuries to key midfielders, will allow Pochettino to make full use of his squad and field a lineup that can rip through such opponents.
Allow Wingbacks More Freedom
One problem Pochettino has faced this season is the lack of a first-choice full-back. Kieran Trippier and Serge Aurier are options on the right wing while Ben Davies remains the only option on the left-wing with Danny Rose no closer to a return. Though they have the quality required, none of the full-backs other than Davies has helped the club’s endeavour and Pochettino needs to give them more freedom and trust his backline to allow them to have more of a say in the final third, thus improving his side’s productivity in front of goal.
Alli In A Free-floating Role
Though not something that will haunt Pochettino yet, English playmaker Dele Alli’s form is surely making him twitch. The English international has two goals and an assist to his name this season and though those are not bad figures, they are a bit underwhelming for a player of his quality.
