Middlesbrough opinion: Should Boro go for Scott Sinclair?

The Scottish Sun has revealed that Celtic star Scott Sinclair has emerged as a target for Championship side Middlesbrough. With manager Tony Pulis looking to reinforce his side, the 30-year-old Celtic man has emerged as one of the club’s top targets.

At the moment, Middlesbrough sit in a relatively decent position in the second-tier. They sit just one point off a promotion playoff spot and with a key game against Rotherham still yet to be played.

A win there would send Tony Pulis and Middlesbrough into a promotion playoff spot if things elsewhere go their way.

As mentioned, Derby County are only one point ahead but a win would effectively confirm their place in the final six. That puts the onus on Boro and one major issue with the club this season has been wingers, despite the fact that Boro have three players.

However, those three include Marcus Tavernier, Stewart Downing and Rajiv van La Para. Out of the trio only Tavernier has managed to make some sort of impact this season, with him contributing to four goals.

This has forced Tony Pulis to adjust his formation and use both George Saville and Jonathan Howson as wing-backs. While they’ve done well, they cannot be long-term options for Middlesbrough, especially given the fact that they’re trying to get back into the Premier League.

Scott Sinclair on the other hand, is the perfect option for the Riverside Stadium side. The 30-year-old has made his mark for 13 teams over the course of his career, including Swansea City, Manchester City and even Chelsea.

But, it’s for Celtic that the 30-year-old has really showcased the best of his abilities. contributing to 94 goals in 156 appearances.

He’s struggled to be his usual prolific self this season, contributing to just 9 goals in the Premiership, 1 goal in the Europa League, and 5 goals in four appearances in the SFA Cup.

This showcases that despite his lack of game time and appearances, Sinclair’s still managed to find the net. That’s something that Middlesbrough need and why the move makes a lot of sense.

Conclusion

Middlesbrough need reinforcements and given their budget, it has to be players within a certain price range, which is why Scott Sinclair is the perfect target.

The speedster needs a new challenge and a move back to England could do him a lot of good. Given the players that Boro has, Sinclair should slot straight into the first-team and cause a few problems with his speed.
