Middlesbrough must go all out to sign this Bosnian talisman with similar attributes to Edin Dzeko – agreed?

Middlesbrough Opinion: Smail Prevljak can end Boro’s goalscoring woes

Middlesbrough’s season, on paper, has been a very respectable one, with them still highly in with a chance of attaining promotion back to the Premier League this season with a late-season push towards the top.

Despite their impressive league position, there is a multitude of deep-lying issues that Tony Pulis will have to solve in the upcoming summer transfer window, irrespective of whether or not they gain promotion.

Boro’s stats perfectly tell the story of their season as they have managed to score only 38 times in the entire season. That’s the worst scoring record of all teams in the top-17 of the Championship.

Even mid-table clubs like Hull City and Sheffield Wednesday have managed to score more goals than Boro but their saving grace this season has come in the form of their rather stubborn defence line.

They have, unbelievably, shipped only 24 games in the entirety of the current season and this is the only reason why they’ve been able to maintain the pace with the free-scoring teams at the top of the league.

While central striking options Britt Assombalonga and Jordan Hugill have contributed with 16 goals between the two of them so far this campaign, that number is far from satisfactory if promotion is their eventual target for the end of the season.

It is quite clear that the addition of a different kind of striker can be the right move to rejuvenate this rather tired looking Boro attack and the man that Tony Pulis should look at is Red Bull Salzburg forward Smail Prevljak.

The Bosnian international earned his first for his country in March 2018 and has since heavily impressed at club level. His scoring record this campaign has been impeccable as he has notched up 9 goals from his 14 appearances in the league.

A product of the Red Bull Leipzig academy, the 23-year-old is a tall forward who isn’t afraid to put himself about in and around the area. Excellent at holding up the play and working the ball in tight spaces, his main attribute is his finishing and that’s what Boro should be interested in.

His movement inside the box is very good and he also displays poacher’s instinct in scrappy situations in the box as well. Extremely quick to react, his goalscoring talents will be a massive boost to this stumbling Boro side and Pulis must go out of his way to complete a deal for this talented youngster.
