Mesut Ozil Talks About His Life At Spain

Share

Mesut Ozil, 24, talks about how he has grown up a since moving to Spain in the German Media.

Ozil who moved to Spain back in the summer of 2010, has been an instant impact at the heart of Madrid’s midfield. He is arguably the stand out player in the next set of superstars of his age group. Be it in the league or at the National level, Ozil has stormed his way into limelight and the 2010 World cup at South Africa had a major part in his carrer. Now in his third season with Real Madrid, Mesut Ozil has spoken of his growth as a person and player, since coming to Spain. He also offered his thoughts on Real Madrid’s Champions League quarter final draw with Galatasary and the German national team.

On how he’s changed since arriving at Madrid:

“Physically I’ve become very strong, my performances are much more consistent. However, I continue to enjoy myself on the pitch. I enjoy my football. I have matured footballistically and I am more experimental.

“I realise that there are still aspects of my game to improve upon. Above all, the number of goals I score. My numbers are not what they could be. I could take shots a lot more but I am a play-maker and my work is to create goals more than score them. That would be my concern, but that doesn’t mean I am not going to try and score more anyway!”

On Galatasaray:

“I’m very excited that we’re going to Istanbul. I have friends there and some of my family live there. Games in Turkey are always special for me. But our objective, of course, is to get through the round.

Although coming from a Turkish back ground, Ozil’s entire life has been circled around Germany and when asked about the culture differences between the two countries, he gives a cheeky reply stating the Spaniards are a little lazy compared to his home country.

“Germans are very disciplined, very meticulous in everything they do. Punctual, structured. The Spaniards, less so, they are a little like the Turks in this sense. But I have adapted to both cultures.”

He also talks about the German and the Spanish National teams, he added:

“We are a respected team. They speak of the fight, discipline and willpower of Germany and that has changed. We look to Spain with a similar philosophy. We also have young players who can maintain their level for the coming years.” [The difference] with Spain is that they have won titles ahead of us. The experience of winning a title is very important. Despite this, we have to keep working our hardest for ourselves and maintain our consistency.”, he concluded.

Both Real Madrid and the German national side have the great good fortune to be able to build a team around him.
