Messi to miss Hamburg trip

Lionel Messi has suffered a strain in his right calf and will miss out on Barcelona’s friendly against Hamburg SV

Echography tests earlier this morning has revealed that he has suffered intramuscular bruising; this means that the Argentine star would remain back in the Catalan capital for treatment, the club said in a statement on their website.

With the continued absence of Spain forward David Villa and his Spanish team mates who are yet to report back from their holiday following a triumphant Euro 2012 campaign, Messi would have been the main attraction in today’s game.

The Catalans would be hoping that it is not a serious injury that keeps him out for the start of the new season.
