Messi Ruled Out: Predicted 3-4-3 Barcelona Line-Up To Take On Granada

Barcelona will travel to the Los Carmenes to face relegation threatened Granada in the Spanish La Liga.

The Catalans go into the game following an impressive 4-2 triumph over Valencia prior to the international break, but they still find themselves in the second place, two points behind league leaders Real Madrid, who still have a game in hand. Barcelona managed to win by a narrow 1-0 margin the last time these two sides met at the Camp Nou earlier this season.

Luis Enrique’s biggest concern will be that star striker Lionel Messi will be unavailable for the clash after picking up a yellow card against Valencia before the break. Barcelona were dealt a further blow when Arda Turan was ruled out for a period of three weeks with a groin injury which he picked up on international duty. Defender Jeremy Mathieu has returned to full training and could make it to the bench on Sunday.

Here is how Barcelona will line up against Granada:

Predicted Barcelona Line-Up vs Granada

Formation: 3-4-3

Marc-Andre ter Stegen (GK)

The German shot-stopper has been the preferred choice in goal ahead of summer signing Jasper Cillessen and it should stay the same.

Javier Mascherano (CB)

The Argentine international is a key presence at the back for the Blaugrana and he will be taking the pitch against Granada without a doubt.

Gerard Pique (CB)

Alongside Mascherano will be the controversial Gerard Pique. The Spaniard has been by far the most consistent defender for Barcelona this season and is a certain starter week in week out.

Samuel Umtiti (CB)

And completing the back-three for the Catalans will be Samuel Umtiti. The Frenchman has been top notch in recent weeks and should retain his place in the line-up.

Sergi Roberto (RM)

On the right-side of the midfield, we could see Sergi Roberto come into the line-up. The Spaniard hasn’t featured heavily in recent weeks, but could be in for a return on Sunday night.

Sergio Busquets (CM)

In the centre of the park, it will be Barca’s midfield mainstay Sergio Busquets. The midfielder has been putting in improved displays recently after a slow start to the season and will be a key presence for the team.

Andre Gomes (CM)

Alongside Busquets, we expect another change with Andre Gomes coming in for Andres Iniesta. The Portuguese scored the crucial fourth goal against Valencia last time around and will look to build on that display.

Jordi Alba (LM)

And on the left-side, Enrique could call in the ever-reliable Jordi Alba. The Spanish international hasn’t been involved a lot in recent weeks due to injury issues, but may return to the starting XI on Sunday.

Rafinha (RW)

And with Leo Messi unavailable, Rafinha will move into the front-three and slot in on the right wing for Barcelona. The Brazilian has been in good form recently and will hope to carry it on against Granada.

Neymar (LW)

On the left-flank it will be Brazilian superstar Neymar. The onus will be on him to carry his team over the line on Sunday in Messi’s absence.

Luis Suarez (ST)

And leading the line will be Luis Suarez. The Uruguayan hasn’t been at his prolific best in recent weeks, but did score a goal against Valencia. Will look to add more goals to his tally against the struggling Granada side.
