It’s records and more records every game the little Argentine plays this season. Lionel Messi scored a brace in Barcelona’s Champions league clash against Spartak Moscow tonight and inched closer to Gerd Muller’s tally of 85 goals in a calender year.
Messi continued his incredible form by firing Barcelona into the next round of the Champions League in a 3-0 victory over Russian club partak Moscow and reached a career high of 80 goals in a year.
Muller scored 85 goals in 60 matches for Bayern Munich and Germany back in 1972 but his record is soon to be beaten by Messi who has six matches left before the turn of the year and with the form he is in, Muller’s record is under serious threat.
Messi also surpassed the achievement of Brazil legend Pele, who scored 75 goals from 53 matches in 1958, Messi moved up a gear in the Russian capital. Dani Alves opened the scoring for Barcelona at around 15 minutes and by half time Messi completed the riot with two brilliant goals thanks to the tiki taka passing of the Catalan club.
