Martins And Lawrence To Start – Predicted 4-2-3-1 Derby County Line-up To Face Barnsley

Predicted Derby County Line-up To Face Barnsley In EFL Championship

Derby just about scraped past Burton Albion last time out and despite picking up points, they have a similar profile to Middlesbrough in that their overall form is not so impressive. Their fans expected more.

Gary Rowett will eventually start feeling the pressure should they slip out of the play-off places and that remains a real danger, especially going to a tricky away game like this one against a Barnsley side which is very much capable of doing some damage.

Looking at what they have available, Derby are likely to remain unchanged from last time and in a 4-2-3-1 formation for this one:

Formation: 4-2-3-1

Manager: Gary Rowett

GK – Scott Carson

Solid and reliable, Carson is likely to carry on between the sticks although Jonathan Mitchell must soon be pushing for regular first-team football.

RB – Chris Baird

Is keeping Andre Wisdom out of the side but the fact that they appear to be much of a muchness to Rowett shows how much of a mistake it was to sell Cyrus Christie.

CB – Richard Keogh

Their central defensive partnership, just like their midfield one, is rock solid and is not an area of concern.

Chris Baird

CB – Curtis Davies

Davies has done no more and no less than you would have expected this season and could still fit into a Premier League side.

LB – Marcus Olsson

The regular left-back should carry on, though a better performance going forward would be nice to see.

CM – George Thorne

Back from injury now and even without Huddlestone in the team, the central areas look very solid.

CM – Joe Ledley

Has tons of experience and complements both Huddlestone and Thorne really well in this role.

RW – Andreas Weimann

The full-back roles and the roles of Weimann, Vydra and the No.9 are the reasons why Derby aren’t at the top. Weimann needs to pull out more to keep justifying his place in the team.

Tom Lawrence

CAM – Matej Vydra

The former Watford man promises much but doesn’t always deliver.

LW – Tom Lawrence

A quality player, at least in the context of playing in the Championship, and Derby must wish they had a couple more like him to support the striker.

ST – Chris Martin

Martin has his place back in the side and can be a thoroughly decent centre-forward, holding up the ball and bringing his support into play. The problem lies when that support, being the inadequate full-backs as well as Weimann and Vydra can’t do the business and so it makes his own contribution look under par.
