Mario Gomez needs surgery

Munich, Germany – Bayern Munich forward Mario Gomez needs surgery to recovery from an ankle injury he suffered last week. The German club claimed that Mario Gomez would be sidelined for the start of the season and will require a minor surgery before he could begin to start his recovery process.

Gomez’s surgery will include removing some loose fragments from his right ankle and there was no time limit given, for how long the German international will be out. Gomez who scored 64 goals in 94 appearances for Bayern and who had a great season last year will be sorely missed.

Bayern director of sport Matthias Sammer was reported saying: “He’s not in good shape. He needs surgery, After the operation, we’ll find out how long he’s unavailable.”

The Bundesliga season opens Aug. 24 and Bayern opens Aug. 25 at newly-promoted Greuther Furth.
