Leeds United kept their automatic promotion chances in their own hands with a vital 2-1 win over Bolton Wanderers at Elland Road. Patrick Bamford and Ezgjan Alioski were the scorers for the home team, while Mark Beevers netted one for the visitors.
Around the 16th minute, Tyler Roberts was fouled by Bolton man Pawel Olkowski inside the box, leaving the referee with no choice but to point to to the spot. Bamford stepped up and slotted the ball into the back of the net to give Marcelo Bielsa’s side the lead.
The away side equalised six minutes later when David Wheater’s initial header from a corner was cleared off the line but Beevers was on hand to force the ball home.
Bamford then had two good chances to put the Peacocks back in front, but Bolton stopper Remi Matthews did well on both occasion. However, the keeper was at fault when a Alioski cross flew over his head and into the back of the net, 22 minutes from time.
Leeds managed to hold onto the lead second time around and go second in the table with 64 points, two behind leaders Norwich City having played a game less.
This is the Peacocks’ second consecutive win in the league as they seek to generate a positive momentum ahead of the season finale.
