Mangala and Toure To Start – Strongest 4-3-3 Manchester City Line-up To Face Wolverhampton Wanderers

Predicted Manchester City Line-up To Face Wolverhampton Wanderers In The Carabao Cup

Manchester City continued marching towards the Premier League title on Saturday as they comfortably beat Burnley 3-0 at the Etihad, a result which saw Sergio Aguero return from injury with a goal. Not only are City unbeaten but they have netted 39 goals over this period and have scored 25 goals in just seven home games this season.

The Citizens are likely to make a number of changes for this League Cup clash, but their backup players are only marginally less threatening than their full strength XI, which does make it seem like Wolverhampton have their work cut out.

Team News

Benjamin Mendy and Vincent Kompany remain the only absentees for the hosts. Pep Guardiola is likely to make a fair number of changes, with Danilo and Elaquim Mangala likely to be given a chance at the back. Claudio Bravo could guard the goal.

Sergio Aguero could be rested after playing against Burnley, which would mean Gabriel Jesus starting up front and probably Raheem Sterling on the wing.

Manager: Pep Guardiola

Formation: 4-3-3

Claudio Bravo (GK)

After playing second fiddle to Ederson throughout the season, this will be a good chance for Bravo to show his worth to Guardiola.

Claudio Bravo

Kyle Walker (RB)

Walker has been influential in his role as a right-back, and will be expected to continue doing the good work against the Wolves.

Eliaquim Mangala (CB)

After a prolonged period of inactivity, Mangala should be keen on making a mark in the heart of City’s defence, if he is handed a start.

Nicolas Otamendi (CB)

Partnering Mangala should be Otamendi, who has been extremely solid at the back. Much of the responsibility is likely to fall on him though, considering Mangala could be a little rusty.

Danilo (LB)

Summer acquisition Danilo has failed to make a mark owing to Delph’s fabulous displays but he is likely to get a start against Wolverhampton.

Nicolas Otamendi

Yaya Toure (CM)

Toure has linked up beautifully with Silva and Gundogan before to put City in the front. If Guardiola hands him a start ahead of Kevin De Bruyne, it will be interesting to see how Toure performs.

Ilkay Gundogan (DM)

Gundogan did extremely well in this position as City romped away to a 3-0 victory against Burnley, which should be enough to see him start in this League Cup encounter.

David Silva (CM)

Silva has been a revelation for City in the midfield. Be it providing assists or creating opportunities, Silva has excelled at it all. He will be a key player when the Citizens face the Wolves.

Raheem Sterling (RW)

Sterling has been in phenomenal form and is a crucial part of City’s aggression in terms of attack. He is likely to continue with his role on the right wing.

Raheem Sterling

Leroy Sane (LW)

Sane has been sensational this season and should continue to feature in the playing XI.

Gabriel Jesus (CF)

Sergio Aguero started up front against Burnley and this should be Jesus’ chance to start as the lone forward.
